A Federal Register notice on Cameroon’s Temporary Protected Status (TPS) was made public by the Department of Homeland Security. This notification explains how to apply for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) under Cameroon’s designation. Cameroon was previously designated for TPS for an 18-month period by Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas.
On June 7, 2022, the registration procedure will begin. Individuals who wish to apply for TPS under the Cameroon designation must submit an application.
Individuals must demonstrate continuous residence in the United States since April 14, 2022, as well as continuous physical presence in the United States since June 7, 2022, to be eligible for TPS under the Cameroon designation. Individuals who arrive in the United States after April 14, 2022 are ineligible for TPS under this classification and may be deported if they have no other legal status in the country. According to USCIS, around 11,700 people may be eligible for TPS under the Cameroon classification.
Applicants for TPS under the Cameroon designation must file Form I-821, Application for Temporary Protected Status, within the 18-month initial registration period, which spans from June 7, 2022, to December 7, 2023. TPS applicants from Cameroon are entitled to file Form I-821 online. Applicants can obtain an Employment Authorization Document while completing a TPS application by submitting a completed Form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, together with their Form I-821. Online submission of Form I-765 is also an option for applicants.
